This is the final step on a long journey our tin has taken. It started in Van Nuys, CA, in the hands of Daisy Rock Guitars President Tish Ciravolo. Tish talked about living in West Hollywood in the late 80s/early 90s, and how the AIDS epidemic affected so many of the people she knew. Tragic losses and heartbreaking experiences. The tin passed through the halls of Daisy Rock's corporate offices, where people talked about how life and dating has changed because of AIDS. To help with the Carry A Tin campaign, Tish and Daisy Rock donated a Heartbreaker Guitar. The guitar, auctioned by ChicBlvd.com on E-bay, raised several hundreds of dollars for the cause. The tin found it's way to the lines at Magic Mountain Theme Park in Valencia, where we heard stories from strangers about how AIDS has affected their lives. One in particular came out of nowhere, from a park visitor who used to work at Magic Mountain years ago. He said Magic Johnson took over the park for a huge, celebrity-filled birthday bash, long before he'd been diagnosed as HIV positive. Amazing how many people, regardless of their wealth or status, have been affected by AIDS. The tin travelled to Schecter Guitars in Burbank, where people opened their doors and shared some of their personal experiences. Their stories covered both ends of the spectrum. Some had close friends whom they'd lost to the illness. Others had never been directly affected. Everyone felt that the fight was long from over, and wanted to do something to help. Schecter's President, Mike Ciravolo, and his staff donated a Schecter Gryphon Limited Edition guitar to help the Carry A Tin Campaign. The guitar, also auctioned off by ChicBlvd.com on E-bay, raised nearly $500 for AIDS research. The tin ended its journey with me. I thought Thanksgiving Day would be a fitting time to post this summary of where the tin has travelled and the stories it's encountered along the way. On behalf of my band, Méchant, I'm donating one dollar for every mint passed out from this tin. This is the last stop on our tin's trip back to YouthAIDS. Thanks for giving us the chance to help. It's astounding that each day 6,000 new HIV infections occur in young people 15 to 24 years of age. Compassion's work is changing lives and ChicBlvd is honored to be a part of it!
